For our ports in Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent-Terneuzen-Flushing, we are looking for new colleagues:

What type of applicant are we looking for?

  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Nautical and technical knowledge. Required certificate and documents according to the Belgian flag state to be able to sail as an Engineer on board a Belgian tugboat.
  • At least the certificate 'III / 1 Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch'
  • A proven technical knowledge through experience as an Engineer in Offshore or on a tugboat
  • You can work well with Microsoft Office and are good at administration
  • You are fluent in both Dutch and English
  • Passion for the maritime industry

Your job


You ensure that the tugboat is technically in order at all times and provide the necessary maintenance to keep all parts up and running. You are an ambassador of the tugboat, the company and the vision of Kotug Smit Towage. You report to the master of the tugboat.


As an engineer you are responsible for managing all technical equipment on board and you take the necessary actions in maintenance and repair. You ensure a correct and efficient use of spare parts, fuels and lubricants. This also means that you are very precise with your administration and accurate in the use of the ordering and maintenance system.


During towing movements, you are responsible for operating the winch according to the instructions from the tug master.


Safety is crucial in our field of work. That is why you periodically test the various parts of the complete equipment and carry out the necessary (safety) drills. You actively participate and report to both the captain and the technical department.
